Insider how to: The best Packing tips for sailing trip

Get ready for the adventure of a lifetime! Before you set sail with us on the Kli-Kli, take a peek at our handy packing tips for sailing trip or a multi-day charters. No pressure—just pure practicality! You’ll love these clever space-saving hacks to make life aboard cozy, comfortable, and stress-free.

Packing tips for sailing – DO

Duffle bag or travel backpack

While our “Kli-Kli” has plenty of room for your clothes and equipment, our cabins are not equipped to store regular suitcases, carry-on bags, or anything larger. The best option is to pack everything in a soft, foldable bag.

Clothing

Tip for multi-day trips: pack light! You’ll primarily live in your swimsuit during the day, so there’s no need to overpack. Check out our ultimate sailing packing list for summer vibes.

Casual wear: Bring a sufficient number of t-shirts, shorts, and dresses for when we reach land. During our trips, we will visit various historical monuments, landmarks, museums, and places of worship, where specific dress codes apply. Therefore, it’s advisable to pack a sarong, scarf, or cover-up. Most restaurants, except for some high-end establishments, do not have strict dress codes, so formal attire like pants, suits, or dresses won’t be necessary.

Pack a pair of leggings or sweater, along with a windbreaker or light jacket. Nights by the sea can be chilly, and when it’s windy, temperatures can feel like they drop into the single digits. Don’t forget to pack at least one or two pairs of socks—you’ll need them to stay warm.

At least 2 swimsuits / trunks – You’ll basically live in your swimsuit – bring two so one’s always dry while the other’s on duty.

Towel -Bring your beloved beach towel if you’d like, but we’ve already stocked ‘Kli-Kli’ with fresh shower, hand, and beach towels!

Underwear – Since we’re time-limited onshore and ‘Kli-Kli’ doesn’t offer laundry, you’ll want to bring a fresh pair for each day (plus extras – just in case!).

Laundry PolicyTo help conserve our resources, we’re unable to accommodate personal laundry onboard due to our water tank capacity and eco-friendly wastewater systems. However, if you have urgent washing needs, please speak with our crew – we’ll do our best to assist!

Footwear / Shoes / Flip-flops

While we live barefoot most of the time onboard, here are the three types of shoes that will make your Adriatic adventure safer and more enjoyable:

  • Water – shoes: Dive into the crystal-clear Adriatic and explore hidden beaches worry-free! These will protect your feet from sea urchins and sharp rocks – because nothing ruins a perfect swim like unexpected ouchies. Trust us, you’ll thank yourself for packing these.
  • Flip-flops / Sandals: Your coastal companions, perfect for quick trips to shore, beachside cocktails, or that “I need to run to the store” moment.
  • Hiking shoes: We strongly recommend sturdy hiking shoes (ankle support is a plus!) for exploring our favorite secret coastal trails, or climbing to breathtaking viewpoints or all those “let’s just see what’s around this corner” moments that turn into unforgettable adventures
  • Remember: The right footwear means more freedom to explore and more comfort when you return to our floating paradise!
Because the best Adriatic adventures aren’t just about the sea! Our “Kli-Kli” philosophy blends Saltwater freedom with Mountain magic

This is sailing… with a side of altitude!
Hat with a tie

You need a hat to help keep the sun off your face, but the breeze will blow it off, so you’ll want something with a string.

Advice: Buy a hat with a string and keep it around your neck at all times.

Sunglasses / Eyewear

Eye Protection Essentials for Your Adriatic Adventure

When enjoying the Adriatic, it’s important to protect your eyes from the blazing sun, reflective surfaces, and salty spray. Here’s how to keep your vision sharp:

The Two-Pair Rule: Always pack a primary pair of sunglasses along with a backup. Accidents, such as dropping them overboard, can happen more often than you might expect!

Pro tip: While floating straps for sunglasses can be helpful, they aren’t foolproof if Poseidon decides to intervene.

Glasses Wearers: If you rely on prescription lenses:
• Opt for photochromic (transition) lenses, or Clip-on sunglasses over your regular glasses. Again – bring a spare set!

Contact Lens Warning: Saltwater + contacts = recipe for irritation and infection. The combo can Cause painful corneal abrasions from trapped salt crystals; Increase infection risk from seawater microbes; make lenses uncomfortably sticky

Our strong recommendation: Stick to regular glasses during active sailing/swimming, saving contacts only for brief shore excursions if absolutely necessary.

Don’t risk red eyes when you could be seeing red sunsets instead?

Toiletries

“Kli-Kli” provides the necessary toiletries onboard. We strongly suggest relying on us, otherwise, please be polite with quantities

Shampoo / Conditioner and Soap / Body wash – “Kli-Kli” provides all soap-based products onboard, but if you have preferred one, or your hair or skin needs special care, bring your own.

Eye drops / Lip balsam / Body milk lotion  – Saltwater has drying effects on your skin and eyes, so being in for the whole day, you will be glad to have eye drops and lip balm.

Toothbrush / Paste

Deodorant / Perfume – Ahoy Sailors! We work hard, but we don’t need to express ourselves with the smell. Keep yourself smelling nice!

Razor

Brush / comb / hair ties – Travel-sized brush or comb works fine, but bring extra hair ties to keep the hair tied on those hot days.

Sun Lotion / Sun protection

On the sailing trip, you will suntan as never before. Sun exposure to the sea is enormous. Even if in the shade of sails or awning. The sun is reflected from any surface, and it’s a treat to your skin. Bring sunscreen with a high SPF (sun protecting factor).

Because of safety rules on board, we don’t allow the use of spray-on oils or lotions.

Medications

Before you join, we will send you a questionnaire about your general health status. We know those data are private and will treat them according to our Privacy policy.

Medications can be spilled, lost, or contaminated onboard. Contact your chosen doctor, get an extra dose of drugs, and ask for prescriptions with the substitute list. In the different markets, pharmacies can have different names for the same medication.

Sailboat “Kli-Kli” has its medicine box / first aid with some common pain reliefs, motion sickness, diarrhea, drugs, etc. We are not trained medic/pharmacologists, and we can not provide your medical care, except the first aid.

Sleeping aids
  • Eye Mask – Mornings at the sea are magnificent. Especially when woken by the first sunlight. You can take a swim when everybody else is sleeping. But if you are someone who doesn’t like to be awakened early, bring an eye mask.
  • Ear Plugs – boats make sounds, even moored. Constant wave splashing the hull, rope swishing, mast creeks, and passing – by speedboats. During the night, when the excitement of the day is over, you will start noticing sounds. If you are a light sleeper, we suggest you pack earplugs.
Documents / Credit cards
  • Passport – As a general rule, passports must be valid for six months beyond the date of your charter. Know the phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of the Embassies in the area of our trip of your country in case of losing your passport.
  • Credit cards – You can pay with a card in most restaurants, shopping centers, and shops. Be sure your cards are secure and have enough funds available.

Packing tips for sailing – DON’T

Jewelry and items of high value

Don’t bring jewelry or any items of high value on the charter. We are sailing and making the most memorable time of your life, not a glamorous show. If you can not live without valuables, please declare them on your boarding. We will provide you with a safe locker.

In case of loss or theft, “Kli-Kli” will bear no consequences.

Snorkeling gear

On your trip with “Kli-Kli”, you will have free snorkeling gear at your disposal. Do not bother bringing your own if it is not your passion.

Fun floats

Our storage space is limited. Floating toys need to be inflated, deflated, and stored… We will provide some water toys for you, but unicorns or flamingos are stylish and nasty when tangled with the ropes on windy passages.

Water / Liquor / Food

Leave the cooking to us and indulge in a hassle-free vacation where every meal is a celebration. After all, we’re here to craft exceptional food and beverage experiences so you can relax, unwind, and fully immerse yourself in the joy of your getaway. Best of all, our passion lies in serving you the freshest flavors and finest drinks – ensuring every moment becomes a memory worth savoring.

Fresh, Local, and Thoughtfully Sourced

Navigating the challenges of the open sea, freshness is absolutely essential. Since sailboats have limited energy and storage, we prioritize daily provisions to not only guarantee quality and safety but also deliver unbeatable taste. That’s why we partner exclusively with trusted local farmers and artisans—transforming their pure, vibrant ingredients into dishes that nourish and delight. In every bite, you’ll taste the care, sustainability, and connection to community that define our approach.

Contraband

You need to follow the laws of Montenegro while you’re on the sailing vessel “Kli-Kli.” If we come across anything that’s not allowed, whether it’s a substance, object, or behavior, we’ll have to report it to the Montenegrin authorities or any relevant officials in the waters where “Kli-Kli” is sailing.

ELECTRONIC AND ENTERTAINMENT

While we are sailing near the shore, commonly there is mobile network coverage. Your phone number will be reachable if you check one of the roaming partners in your network. Please get informed about extra charges for cellular and internet use.

We provide free internet connection on board in Montenegro.

Bring 220 V AC EU socket type C, E, F phone charger or automotive type outlet (ISO 4165) charger that works up to 24 V DC

During offshore passages on the Adriatic coast, for the distress or in extreme need, we will be reachable over the Marine Radio Channel 16. We will send you by e-mail the List of Land station phone numbers.

Laptop / Computer

We work remotely, ‘cos we need to be in contact. Computers became our lives. We do it too, we are “digital nomads”, too and it’s almost hard for us to live offline. You will have a comfortable workspace in the salon or even on the deck during the entire stay at the sailboat “Kli-Kli”. Please inform us about your needs to tailor the trip.

If there is over one laptop computer onboard, we would need to know your routine, working hours, and power consumption. You need enough electricity, and we need to fulfill your demands.

We are limited with space, so a maximum of 6 workspaces can be allocated.

There is even the possibility of accommodating a full desktop computer with multiple screens for expeditions or special assignments.

iPod or similar device

Bring your music, games or an electronic book.

We are passionate about board games, and we have many board, card, and role-playing games. We like entertain everybody on board during long hauls – children, families, or adults.

If you know about some new game, bring it. We would like to cross convolutions and play with you.
