Keeping the sailboat of the “Kli-Kli” size sound requires all hands on the deck. Tools, knowledge, and time – a lot of time! We have equipped the home workshop with all the essential tools and machines. We take care, starting with the painting, and include extensive electrical work.

The brief history of the sailboat “Kli-Kli”

A single-hull steel ketch was commissioned in 1973 by the Kojadinović family. “Kli-Kli” was built by a small French shipyard. The plan was laid out by Michael Joubert, who later became the renowned French naval architect of the Joubert-Nivelt studio. “Kli-Kli” was hull number two of their “Sigma 40” series. The boat was finished in 1974.

Kojadinović was one of three families from ex-Yugoslavia who circumnavigated the globe in the late seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. The adventures of “Kli-Kli” were absorbed by lads and lasses at “home” through voyage tales in popular weekly and monthly publications and TV series. “Kli-Kli” became the icon of freedom and the nomadic way of life in the popular culture and imagination of the young people of the time. The Kojadinović family owned the “Kli-Kli” until 2019.

Today, fourteen years after it arrived in the Bay of Kotor, “Kli-Kli” has been revitalised with a new mission. We aim to preserve the rich history of “Kli-Kli” by offering both day trips and multi-day excursions.

“Kli-Kli” Refurbishment

Renovation of “Kli-Kli” began in June 2019, with completion planned for April 2026. The project focuses on upgrading the vessel to modern standards while carefully preserving her original character. The interior is designed to provide comfortable accommodation for up to six guests in three cabins, supported by two bathrooms. A fully equipped galley will allow the preparation of traditional Mediterranean cuisine.

So far, extensive work has been completed on the hull, engine, and sails. All onboard systems—including electrical wiring, telecommunications, plumbing, and ventilation—have been completely rebuilt to ensure safety, reliability, and long-term performance.

“Kli-Kli” as an expedition boat

A need has been identified for a multi-day research platform to support the NGO sector. “Kli-Kli” is intended to provide a reliable framework for marine life research organisations, including mammal studies, bird protection, migration tracking, environmental monitoring, and related activities. Without additional modifications to the vessel’s interior or exterior, she can already accommodate up to six researchers in safe and functional working conditions. Provisions for food, water, and essential materials, tools, and equipment can be stored on board enabling extended multi-day research expeditions..

“Kli-Kli” as an educational boat

“Kli-Kli” has developed two educational excursions designed for schoolchildren aged 11 to 15. The first focuses on Geography, History, and Art in the Bay of Kotor during the 16th to 18th centuries, while the second explores the Geography and Ecology of the Bay of Kotor. Both programs are aligned with the curriculum of Montenegrin primary schools and further adapted through the “Child-Friendly” approach to ensure an engaging and age-appropriate experience for young participants.

Geography, history, and art in
Bay of Kotor during the 16th to 18th centuries

This multidisciplinary program explores the connection between location and historical events from the 16th to the 18th centuries—specifically, life on the border between the Venetian Republic and the Ottoman Empire. These key historical events influenced the development of culture and artistic expression in the region.

Discover the importance of geographic location for trade and the influence of the Bay of Kotor on the history of Montenegro. This period was highly fruitful for the creation of fine art, poetry, maritime activity, and diplomatic endeavours in the wider region of the Bay.

The excursion lasts five hours (comprising six lectures). Starting points include Herceg Novi, Kotor, or Tivat.

Geography and ecology of
the Bay of Kotor

This excursion aims to introduce students to a multidisciplinary approach to environmental protection.

During the trip, we will review the importance and unique characteristics of the local environment within ecosystems. We will discuss the primary concerns regarding the impact of chemical pollution from polymer compounds (plastics), oil, and oil derivatives on the environment. Additionally, we will observe marine ecosystems and biodiversity.

The excursion lasts five hours (comprising six lectures). The starting points include towns along the Bay of Kotor.
