Insider how to: The best Packing tips for sailing trip

Please take time to read packing tips for sailing on multi-day charters with sailboat “Kli-Kli”. It’s not obligatory, but you will find very useful information for life within the limited space.

Packing tips for sailing – DO

Duffle bag or travel backpack

While our “Kli-Kli” has plenty of room to pack your clothes and equipment. Our cabins are not equipped with storage capacity for a regular suitcase, carry-on bag, or anything larger. The best thing you can do is pack everything in a bag that is easy to fold up.

Clothing

A general rule of thumb for multi-day charters is traveling light. During the day on the boat, you will be mostly in a swimsuit. Please check our suggestions on how to pack for sailing and summer activities.

Casual wear – Number of t-shirts and shorts, dresses … for the time when we reach land. During our trips, you will visit many historical monuments and landmarks, museums, or places of worship, where wear rules apply, so you will need a sarong, scarf, or cover-up. Restaurants, except some of the high class, don’t have strict dress codes, so you won’t need pants, suite or dresses.

Pair of leggings or sweater/wind stopper or light jacket – Nights at the sea are cold, and when it’s windy, feels like temperatures can drop to one digit. Also, you will be glad to have a pair or two of socks.

At least 2 swimsuits/trunks – You will spend most of your day in a swimsuit, so let one dry and wear the other.

Towel – You can bring your loved beach towel, but “Kli-Kli” will provide you with showering, hand, and beach towels.

Underwear – be sure to pack enough pairs of regular underwear. We are time-limited onshore and “Kli-Kli” can’t do your laundry.

We don’t allow your own laundry onboard because of the low capacity of water tanks and sewage treatment policy. If you need something to be washed, please inform us.

Footwear / Shoes / Flip-flops

During your summer stay onboard “Kli-Kli” we are barefoot, but you will need some footwear the time to time:

  • Water – shoes: Swimming in the Adriatic sea or wandering the beaches is one of the most memorable experience of the life. There are big chances that your feet can be wounded with accidental injuries from stepping on a sea urchin or sharp rock. So we suggest you definitely pack water shoes. They’ll give you the freedom to roam around on any of the islands you come across.
  • Flip-flops / Sandals: For all roaming on the coast.
  • Hiking shoes: We strongly recommend bringing a pair of (deep) hiking shoes. There are many interesting paths on the shore we love to show to our guests.
You guess why our packing tips for sailing include hiking shoes. We like to connect the sea and mountain activities.
Hat with a tie

You need a hat to help keep the sun off your face, but the breeze will blow it off, so you’ll want something with a string. Advice: buy a hat with a string and keep it around your neck at all times.

Sunglasses / Eyewear

Spending the whole day outdoors, with a lot of reflections, bright surfaces, and sea mist splashes, your eyes need protection. Sunglasses or your spectacles with some sort of darkening filter are a must but don’t just bring one, bring a spare one. There are very good chances your eyewear will fall off the boat or get lost in the sea somehow. We suggest having some sort of neck strap, but it is not full protection from losing your eyeglasses.

Contact lenses in constant contact with water are not a great option. We suggest having your regular glasses.

Toiletries

“Kli-Kli” provides the necessary toiletries onboard. We strongly suggest relying on us, otherwise, please be polite with quantities

Shampoo / Conditioner and Soap / Body wash – “Kli-Kli” provides all soap-based products onboard, but if you have preferred one, or your hair or skin needs special care, bring your own.

Eye drops / Lip balsam / Body milk lotion  – Saltwater has drying effects on your skin and eyes, so being in for the whole day, you will be glad to have eye drops and lip balm.

Toothbrush / Paste

Deodorant / Perfume – Ahoy Sailors! We work hard, but we don’t need to express ourselves with the smell. Keep yourself smelling nice!

Razor

Brush/comb/hair ties – Travel-sized brush or comb works fine, but bring extra hair ties to keep the hair tie on those hot days.

Sun Lotion / Sun protection

On the sailing trip, you will suntan as never before. Sun exposure to the sea is enormous. Even if in the shade of sails or awning. The sun is reflected from any surface, and it’s a treat to your skin. Bring sunscreen with high SPF (sun protecting factor).

Because of safety rules on board, we don’t allow the use of spray-on oils or lotions.

Medications

Before getting on the board, we will send you a questionnaire about your general health status. We know those data are private, and we will treat them according to our Privacy policy.

Medications can be spilled, lost, or contaminated onboard. Contact your chosen doctor, get an extra dose of drugs, and ask for prescriptions with the substitute list. In the different markets, pharmacies can have different names for the same medication.

Sailboat “Kli-Kli” has its medicine box / first aid with some common pain reliefs, motion sickness, diarrhea, drugs, etc. We are not trained medic/pharmacologists and we can not provide your medical care, except the first aid.

Sleeping aids
  • Eye Mask – mornings at the sea are magnificent. Especially when woken by the first sunlight. You can take a swim when everybody else is sleeping. But, if you are someone who doesn’t like to be awakened early, bring an eye mask.
  • Ear Plugs – boats make sounds, even moored. Constant wave splashing the hull, rope swishing, mast creeks, and passing – by speedboats. During the night, when the excitement of the day is over, you will start noticing sounds. If you are a light sleeper, we suggest you pack earplugs.
  • Sleeping pills
Documents / Credit cards
  • Passport – As a general rule, passports must be valid for six months beyond the date of your charter. Know phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of the Embassies in the area of our trip of your country in case of losing your passport.
  • Credit cards – In most restaurants, shopping centers, and shops, you can pay with a card. Be sure your cards are secure and have enough funds available.

If there is over one laptop computer onboard, we would need to know your routine, working hours, and power consumption. You need enough electricity, and we need to fulfill your demands.

We are limited with space, so a maximum of 6 workspaces can be allocated.

Even there is the possibility of accommodating a full desktop computer with multiple screens for expeditions or special assignments.
